This medium represented the great uncharted territory for me.
Although I did teach my own kids how cut a linoleum block, I did so in a didactic sort of way and based on THIS BOOK, rather than from personal experience.
On Saturday, my girls ended up seeing me through this process and offering their support and "expertise". It is always amusing to have the tables turned and see my kids get all pedantic on me. Oh, and by the way, I cut myself 2 times inspite of my preaching to my own kids: "safety and technique first!" I'm losing my credibility...
In the end, Ms. K surveyed the end result and said, "You can do better next time." I take it there is no where to go but UP at this point. And I will most certainly be doing this again!! For me, there is no other artistic endeavor that is quite as meditative as the subtractive method of gauging a linoleum block. And as I learned, if you aren't mindful and present during the process...you will surely gauge your fingers.
