paint and sew experimental dress

Another dress was completed this weekend.

This time, we wouldn't settle for store bought fabric. So we painstakingly created our own textile pattern using the ever popular freezer paper stencil technique. My little bunny helped with the painting. This part was super fun! (If you don't know about freezer paper stencils, I assure you that you will find a ton of great tutorials online!)

 

I sewed it all together in a rather sloppy and quick fashion.

And she modeled it for me. 

I'm ready to do another paint and sew experiment!

Things That Move

Through the initiative, determination and creativity of a few parents (me included, naturally!) a brand new school event was born! ART SPARK (that's our name for it) is a student wide art-exhibition with a broad and inspiring theme to spark ideas. For our pilot year, the theme we chose was: THINGS THAT MOVE.

Here are some pictures of parent-run workshops fully equipped with art supplies, power tools, creative environment and adult supervision (especially around the power tools).

This is what our school auditorium looked like. We transformed it into an impressive art gallery!

And here are some pictures of my kids making their Calder-inspired Stabiles for the exhibition.

A book full of ideas

I'm thoroughly convinced that the best craft books come from the 70's!

Originally in French, this English translated version is thoroughly modern, quirky and colorful.  The sock puppet dog on wheels kills me!

I noticed that so many of the ideas here use recycled materials - and that itself is so relevant today!  This author was so very ahead of his time.
