As we inch our way towards December, our non-traditional version of an Advent Calendar or Christmas Countdown is still a work in progress.
I've seen so many great advent calendar ideas with sweet edible surprises that you can store up for each day. But I decided that the little daily surprises my kids will most likely cherish in the long run are the creative and handmade ones. Of course in the short run, they would much prefer the candy.
So with the help of my husband, we started making Push-Me / Pull-Me Cards. When the arrow tab is pulled or pushed, an element on the card FLIPS over to reveal an unexpected or funny change in the picture. I must admit, this all required quite a bit of planning! Each handmade card represents 1 part paper engineering, 2 parts idea brainstorming and 4 parts paper collage assembling.
That should explain why, as of today, this is all I've got to show:
Here are some close up shots below.
DAY 1: "Partridge in a Hair Tree"
DAY 4: A sentimental one for my musical girls.
DAY 6: The old woman who lives sustainably in a shoe.
Ok, I now have only 16 more cards to make!
...Will post more pictures later! I've got some more work to do!
